Event: Global Beauty Masters (Battle of the Strands)
Episode 103 – International Challenge / Bridal Groomsmen Challenge
Client: Krista White (Americas Next Top Model – Cycle 14 Winner) Judge
Episode 3 for Global Beauty Masters, there was a lot crammed into this episode. From the International Challenge, to the Bridal Challenge, to the Reveal Party. These events actually took over the course of two days. I am going to start off by saying, it was pretty stressful over those two days. Being pulled in multiple areas, but I knew I could make it all happen.
The international challenge, this is where all the international competitors arrived and joined Global Beauty Masters on set. There were teams from Jamaica, Japan, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Mexico, and Canada. When they arrived, there presents were felt. You can tell the difference between the US teams and the International teams, based on just how they carry themselves. The US teams, are more casual, more artsy, tattoos, piercings, and edgy feel to their styling. The International teams, they were dressed more so chic, polished, groomed, neatly put together. I was personally excited about seeing what they were going to bring. That was the good part, the bad part, the teams didn’t have models nor wardrobe. Originally when planning this event, the international teams were bringing their own models and their own wardrobe. I didn’t plan for this event to have additional designers with wardrobe. In a frantic, I started to call designers I had built relationships with / or done other projects with to pull more wardrobe. To some extent, I felt like I was harassing these designers. In a funny way. I really felt pushed in a corner for this next challenge, to find wardrobe. I called the designers I had with in my network. Gave them the speech, the exposure for TV, the credits, so on and so forth. Wardrobe came through!! I was able to get on board, Vegas Couture by Wanda Merritt, Brenton Derrick. Even though this was only two designers, each of them were able to bring 20 looks each. Total, I had about 90 Dresses in the wardrobe room managing them.
Once I got the new portion of the dresses, I started to organize them by designers on each rack. Took out the ones that were already used in the second challenge, the Lamborghini Challenge. As I mentioned in my last post, I didn’t want it to be disorganized and not prepped. I called my assistant, Keyska to come to the event to help me with this project. 90 dresses, that was more than enough for me. Together we started to steam the dresses, change out the hangers to wooden hangers, organize the garment bags. Then I had to remember, Krista White. I needed to pull some looks aside for her to wear. We had 3 more challenges left I needed to dress her for. Krista had the international challenge, the bridal challenge, the reveal party, and then the finale show. I called Krista to come to the wardrobe room, where we went through the new dresses. We did some fittings, and looked through them all. I was also told by the producers of the show that there was another designer bringing some dresses specifically for Krista as well. So we pulled some aside and hoped for these other dresses to be suitable.
REVEAL PARTY
For the reveal party, Krista and I decided on another Debbie Carroll Design dress. This one was different from Debbie’s aesthetic designs, her signature look, full lace look, with a low back open and a high neck. This dress had the open back, high neck line, but wasn’t lace. For Krista, this made it look different on her than what she wore on day two. Still had the bright color that would compliment her skin tone. Still was very form fitting and flattering to her sample size physique. The reveal party, is where the international teams and the US teams meet for the first time. Both sets of teams also mingle and network, and the theme for the final challenge is then revealed. At the reveal party, Krista and I were chatting about this mysterious designer who had additional dresses. We didn’t know what to expect. I then got a text from a random number, turns out it was the designer, Alexandre Dorriz. He had just arrived and asked for me and Krista to do a fitting and check out his dresses. We met with him, and it was amazing dresses and ready to wear pieces he had. He brought a green hand painted skirt suit set. It had a details and prints that read ethnic, culture, international. Being we were heading into the an international challenge, Krista and I agreed on this look. It would blend in with the next competition perfectly.
INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE
The International challenge day came up. I started my day an hour early for the day. Rolling the racks of wardrobe to the war tents, grabbing the bags of accessories and shoes to lay everything out. No mistakes this day. Mission Accomplished! Everything was setup perfectly. This is how the first day should of gone. Everything was more smoother on this day. Krsita wearing Alexandre dress, with green jacket and skirt, with beautifully hand painted prints on the jacket and skirt.

BRIDAL CHALLENGE
The bridal challenge, it appeared we had just one dress from the viewing of the episode. However, we had options that hasn’t been seen. From our first meeting with Alexandre, we had a fitting for the international challenge. He also had a few bridal gowns with him as well. Krista was to make an appearance and walk out on the stage and “pick her groom” she wanted to marry. We just needed to pick one dress for her to wear. None the less, either dress we decide to go with, we knew she would look stunning!! We first tried on a more form fitting long gown dress. It was gorgeous. Fit her perfectly in the waist. And the tail of the dress… perfection. It was very unique. As she walked, you can see it peak open and allow her show her shoes through the slits. It resembled a fortune cookie on the bottom of the dress. It was really beautiful. What we decided and what made our decision was she needed dramatic entrance. The couture gown had such a story behind it. Handmade, hand stitched , crystals and shells along the bust and neck line. You know when you see something amazing and the heavens open up and you see the ray of sunshine and the angels sings?? That was that moment, when Krista tried on the second dress. By no way or shape or form do I see myself in the market as a bridal stylist, but this moment made me think it over for a second.
