Diane Schmidtke (celebrity hair stylist / men’s grooming) , Judge

Final episode of the season. Unfortunately, this season was only airing for 4 episodes, in reality it was much longer than that. For the finale season, or the final day, I knew this day was going to be super easy for me. The final challenge, majority of the teams already came to Global Beauty Masters with their finale dresses and wardrobe. However, for those who didn’t, I still was able to offer some dresses, costumes, etc. When it came to the end with the teams, all 16 teams picked their models for their presentation. There really wasn’t much for me to do, so I thought.

KRISTA WHITE

By this day, she and I were basically best friends forever. No but seriously, we already picked out her wardrobe. She wanted to be dramatic. Now even though, through out the week, I didn’t dress Amy Michelob until the last night. I did see her throughout the week and gave her wardrobe consulting. Being that Krista and Amy were my only to clients that week, they always wanted to know what each other were wearing to out GLAM the other . With Krista, we managed to get her into two looks for finale. As you watch, or may have already watched, Krista was only seen on camera wearing just one look. What you didn’t see, was on red-carpet I dressed her in Alexandre Dorriz, red see-through long kimono. How we timed it, Krista is to appear to the finale and be on red carpet styled by me, wearing Vegas Couture by Wanda Merrit. She is to appear on TV in the brown gator mini dress with the tan hi-low belted wrap skirt. Afterwards, when the show was over, the glam squad (Jeremiah Broom & Jeffery Lotspeich) escorted her to outside of the auditorium, quickly did our touch ups and wardrobe change, and got her back on the red carpet for more shots to be taken with press, guest, and contestants. This wasn’t ideal, how we originally planned for it. Glam squad, we wanted to be able to escort Krista during the break, do the touch ups and wardrobe change, and have her wear the Alexandre Dorriz red kimino to be filmed on Tv as well. The break was a 15 – 20mins lapse, where they aired the student battle challenges and the recaps of that to live audience. When we tried that, the production team didn’t want her leave. Didn’t think we would have enough time to do the change out and get her back to her seat in time for filming. As much as we tried to convince them, and advise them, they didn’t see our vision. Fail!! None the less, option B still was a success, and we got her in the red kimono for photo opportunities.

AMY MICHLEB

As I mentioned, Amy and I had our meetings throughout the week and consulted with her wardrobe. We didn’t do any changes to her wardrobe, as some of the things she already had, I felt was better suited. For the finale, she had some dresses sent over special delivery that I received. We did a fitting, and turned out the two looks, didn’t compliment her and the look we were hoping for. The end result was a simple black dress with a belt with an embellished buckle for attention getter. We looked at some accessories to compliment the neckline, but it was too much glam for TV and stage. Added some earings and called it a day. Dress was steamed, looks were laid out for her in the glam squad room. Done!!

So far, my day was being a breeze. I finished my fitting with Amy, had her wardrobe prepped. Got Krista situated and prepped, wardrobe was steamed and accessorized. I figured I could take it easy, and start to get myself ready. I went and met up with the rest of the glam squad team to assist with wardrobe for Krista. Had Alexandre’s red kimono dress with me, ready to go. Then I got a call… from Lyle Malipit. Lyle was my immediate direct contact person for Global Beauty Masters. When He called me, he asked for me to come right away. Turns out we had an issue with one of the judges unable to participate, due to an immediate emergency. Luckily, there was an easy and quick fix for fill in, however being a fill in. Wardrobe for her wasn’t prepared. Needless to say, I immediately was given the opportunity to dress and style celbrity hair stylist / mens grooming Dianne. Now sure you would think since my morning and early afternoon had gone smooth, I could handle this additional client. Thing is, I wasn’t wardrobe prepared for this, nor could I be in two places, or event three places at once to continue assisting Krista and Amy getting dressed. My phone was going off every minute, text messages, calls, needing me in opposite directions and opposite floor levels.

DIANA SCHMIDTKE

It felt insane. Running to get shoes and accessories for Krista. I had to hand off the Alexandre kimono to the other half of the glam squad. Then running over to check in with Amy, making sure she was happy, she felt comfortable, and ready for TV. Then sprinting to the wardrobe room going through designer options I had that hasn’t been seen on the show yet. I grabbed a few options and brought them with me. Keep in mind, we had 30 – 45 mins until the show had to start. I meet up with Lyle and Diane with her team. I show her some options. Some she likes, and of course some she doesn’t like. I go through what she has in her wardrobe. Make some suggestions, offer her my fashion advice. Turns out, she had a Calvin Klein fitted black dress, with floral black prints on it. I pull out a min blazer, with fur trim, and texture. She tries it on… I wait for it. She seems to be interested. “That jacket and dress looks great together. With the mixture of the texture of the jacket mixed with the black on black floral print of the dress works well together. They complement each other and complete the look.” Diane and her team agreed with me. They loved the look how it all managed to pull together.

Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo of the complete look. You can view the episode and see her wearing the blazer jacket with the dress on camera when she does her judging critiquing. ** Episode clip available below at end of the blog entry.

After all my running around, I was able to enjoy the show and see what the team and myself had been working our way through for the week. It was a great feeling, to see it come to life and to an end. Seeing Amy on stage hosting the show, and Diane and Krista at the judges table seeing them on the big screen wearing what I styled for them, then seeing Krista back on red carpet in her second look with everyone taking photos of her, complementing on her looks. I think the most rewarding part, I would say seeing my name on the credits for wardrobe. Everyone who was watching saw my name and my work. With a crazy chaotic day it turned out to be, if this is what wardrobe styling for celebrities or for tv is about, coming up with on the spot ideas and looks, I am all for it…. Truly an amazing feeling!!!
